Things I am going to miss...

So... we managed to miss Mush for Kids this year :( so our friend (and prof) said we could help out with something else he was doing. He wanted to give some rides to some locals who help out with the mushing community!

So we showed up to help, and waited....

This cutie-pie belongs to another couple that has a team! They brought the dogs and we brought hands to help!

Fist we roped some dogs up to a plastic sled with a laundry basket on it.

This is what a real sled looks like!

after we waited for a while we decided no one was going to show up and we better just run the dogs! We did bring them all the way out there, and it would be cruel to not let them run

This is us getting the sled and dogs all hooked up. I'm taking the photo (so I'm not in it!)

I got to ride on the sled while the dogs got a run and snapped a few photos

The dog butt shot!

having a "drink" of snow

and lastly this is Rusty. Rusty didn't get hooked up with the rest of the team because he is a little on the slow side (compared to the others) but he just wanted to run and ran along side the team the whole way!

I hope you enjoyed the photos! This is something I am going to miss about Alaska! So many wonderful dogs!

I'm totally not funny.

I just realized that I bet this is pretty boring. I am totally not funny so I should just include a pretty picture every time I write something....

Brian and I were discussing Hawaii (because we are still SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!) and were talking about the idea of getting property (just land) and if we would be on or off the grid!

Oh don't worry I'll keep you up to date on this one. 100% sure at least 6 months or more in an apartment to get settled then... who knows! We did meet in Bellingham after all.... ;)

We pulled off the side of the road somewhere on the south tip of the island for this shot!

Shipping the car… Oh THAT’S why!

So I was having a hard time figuring out why I couldn’t just pack my car and send it. Then I started doing some research and it clicked! Agriculture inspection! They want you car clean and empty so the inspection goes quickly! Duh! Now that I have that figured out I am going to get my car detailed and ship it on over! 

Moving to Hawaii: Step 1 Car

I have sent the announcement to my family, and its time to start planning. The first step is getting my car over there. It is currently happily in Seattle, hanging out at my parent’s house. Lucky for me it seems a lot of shipping companies go out of Seattle so that takes the challenge of getting it to the port out of it.. This weekend I need to figure out if I can ship it packed our not. And since it is almost April I need to finish writing my paper!

I am going to need to start packing up here as well. So many things will end up in boxes back in Seattle again. I am planning on keeping a little bit of winter gear for traveling, and a bag of skiing gear. I like the idea of flying home for a ski vacation!

Big Island here I come!

Life just got interesting!

Well, life just got interesting! Not that crafting wasn't interesting but now I am about to start on a new adventure!

I have just turned down a 100k/yr job with an oil company to work for a research laboratory in Hawaii. Let the adventure begin! So when I decided I wanted to blog I guess it was a good time to start!

Challenge #1: getting there!
- shipping the car
- finding a place
- escaping I mean saying good-bye to Alaska!

This could also be chapter 1. I accepted the offer and the paperwork is getting started this week so now we start the adventure. Keep tuned for more fun!

Falls by Athena's Spear Creations

Types of falls and cost (see details below):
Cyberlocks: $10 labor +material costs
Yarn & Ribbon Falls: $10 labor + material costs
Mixed Media Falls: $15-25 labor + materials

Cyberlocks:

I can make these for you!
Cost: $10 labor + material costs
I will get the crin, cut, and sew onto a ribbon for attachment into your hair and apply my special treatment of the ends to slightly weigh them down and give them some bounce!

Allow for time to order the crin since it will have to ship to me before I can make them!

Yarn & Ribbon Falls:

Cost: $10 labor + material costs
You pick the colors and textures and I will make falls of the desired length. Limitations are: what they sell in town!

for braiding or thicker strands add $10 labor (much more time consuming)

Mixed Media Falls:

Cost: $15-25 labor + materials
the cost depends on what the "mixed" consists of! lots of beads = more time and more expensive!
Your imagination (and the craft stores in town) are the limit!
We can talk about the style and variety of materials you would like!

moooooosshhhhhy brain

I went to a Bellydance show last night (Voodoo Moon)
A friend of mine performed wearing mixed media yarn falls I made her!
I was very proud!

I did some experimenting with longer exposures to catch the spinning of the dancers. I think it worked pretty well! My brain is a little on the moosh side today from formatting all day yesterday.

I was going to write more and then... my brain died.
